Effort Begun to De-Fund PP in Pa.
On May 23rd, Rep. Daryl Metcalfe announced H.B. 2405, a bill to prevent State or Federal funds from reaching any committer of abortions. Rep. Metcalfe said in his announcement “Each year, Planned Parenthood aborts more than 320,000 innocent lives and over 16,000 of those abortions occur in Pennsylvania.” Just this last week, www.liveaction.org exposed that PP had no problem with sex-selective abortions. PP does not deserve our money and they don’t deserve to be treated by the state or federal governments as a legitimate group. Please call Pa. House Majority Leader, Mike Turzai at 717-772-9943 and urge him to run this legislation.
Urge Gov. Corbett to Reject Waiver Requests
On December 22, 2011, Gov. Corbett signed legislation that requires abortion chambers in Pa. to meet the same health and safety standards as “Ambulatory Surgical Facilities.” The legislation is due to take effect on June 22, 2012 and its enforcement would mitigate some of the death and harm caused to children and their mothers at these abortion chambers. Thus, not surprisingly, on March 10, 2012, 15 Pa. abortion chambers applied to the Pa. Dept. of Health (DOH) for waivers from these new requirements.
What is surprising is that Gov. Corbett’s DOH still has not denied these waiver requests. The approval of any of these requests undermines the purposes of this legislation. Please contact Gov. Corbett at 717-787-2500 or www.governor.state.pa.us and urge his Administration to reject these waiver requests.
For almost 6 years Chen Guangcheng has been suffering at the hands of the Chinese government. His crime – speaking out against China’s one-child policy. Very few of the articles and news stories reporting Chen’s recent escape from house arrest have mentioned the true reason for the Chinese government’s abuse of Chen. The main stream media love those who speak out against government authority, but they do not love those who speak out against abortion. Chen challenges them by shedding light on the barbarity and horror of what the Chinese government does to her citizens in the name of population control.
While Chen, who has been blind since birth, first petitioned the Chinese government over unfair taxation for those with disabilities, his most famous case was in 2005. While China’s National Population and Family Planning Commission claims that the one-child policy asks for voluntary compliance and does not force citizens to undergo abortions or sterilizations, the truth is that the Chinese government uses harsh and brutal methods to enforce this policy. Chen exposed the brutal methods used by family planning officials in Linyi, where officials were engaged in forced sterilizations and abortions, as well as in the detention and torture of family members of those who escaped.
The class action lawsuit Chen filed was rejected, but it did expose the actions of the Chinese government to the world. His willingness to speak out against the Chinese government while remaining in China has continued to force foreign governments and human rights organizations to face the truth about China’s one-child policy. Namely, that there is no way to maintain a one-child policy without violating the human rights of its citizens. Forced abortion and sterilization are the two main weapons in the Chinese government’s arsenal. The MSM in this country and many of our government officials now find themselves in the unenviable position of defending Chen without condemning the policies of the Chinese government.

Happy Mother’s Day! Today is the day to celebrate the gift of Motherhood. At the Pro-LIfe Union we celebrate the women we have encountered who have chosen Life over abortion. The Pro-LIfe Union seeks to build a Culture of Life by educating the public about abortion, supporting alternatives to abortion, by offering support and help to women and by promoting the sanctity of life in our laws and in the media. As pro-life people when we share with women the humanity of their unborn child and the damaging effects of abortion, women are free to choose life and experience the gift of Motherhood. It is a privilege to do this work and while we face challenges, the rewards are great! We encourage everyone to get involved! We hope you enjoy the Video below that explains our work!
The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) declined to renew the license for the “Allentown Medical Services” (AMS) abortion facility (at 2200 Hamilton St., Suite 200 in Allentown), which expired on March 31, 2012. Thus, on April 3, 2012, DOH officials notified AMS that they were no longer legally authorized to commit abortions at this location.
Mary Paris, a leader with the Pro-Life Coalition of Pa. called the DOH action “long-overdue, but very positive.”
For a few years, our Coalition had sought the closure of this abortion facility because of its clear association with Steven Brigham. This association included its toll-free number, its website, and response to DOH inspections.
In 2008, the DOH ordered Steven Brigham not to have any direct or indirect relationship with an abortion facility in Pa. because of his lengthy record of hiring unlicensed or unqualified physicians and nurses.
In response to this order, Brigham transferred ownership of his two Pa. abortion facilities in Allentown and Pittsburgh to his mother, Judith Fitch, who lives in Toledo, Ohio under the name of a newly created non-profit organization called “Rose Health Services.”
Mary Paris explained, “The alleged transfer of Brigham’s two Pa. abortion facilities to “Rose Health Services” constituted a huge fraud that the DOH tolerated for far too long. For this same reason, the DOH should revoke the license to the Brigham/Rose abortion facility in Pittsburgh, which is called the “American Women’s Services.”
Steven Brigham has a lengthy and sordid record of medical malpractice and criminal activity. He has lost or surrendered his medical license in five states, including Pa.
In December 2011, Cecil County, MD prosecutors filed homicide and other charges against Brigham for his operation of a secret late-term abortion chamber in Elkton, Maryland.
